According to the artist, The Curse of Leptirica was composed as a soundtrack for an unproduced adaptation of Yugoslavian folk horror film Leptirica. The album utilizes dissonant string sections and eerie ambient sound design to create an atmosphere similar to 70's slow-burn horror films.
The 7 tracks on the album are highly consistent in tone and execution, yet they all feel distinctly different, portraying different scenes of the unproduced film. The production on the album leans a bit to the lo-fi side, typical for dungeon synth, but it is done in a tasteful way, where you can still easily pick up all the instruments and sounds.
Ris accomplishes what they set out to do remarkably well. The Curse of Leptirica is highly recommended for fans of dark dungeon music and 70's horror soundtracks.
