Deciduos Forest's (Australia) debut album offers a 47-minute-journey of atmospheric black metal. It is one of those records that really takes you to a different time - back when nature was at its grandest.
Much of the album’s melodic content is provided by keyboard sections, which act as the album's golden thread, the flowing stream that carries the music from passage to passage. And, at least to me, it is the project's most distinguishing, unique element.
The album is highly textural and atmospheric, but also has plenty of power and rawness. There's an interplay of contemplative ambient segments and darkly grandiose metal parts, reflecting the duality of nature and humanity itself. This debut release promises great things to come from Deciduous Forest.
